LUXURY SAFARI IN KENYA
the destination
When you think of Africa and safaris, the first country that comes to mind is probably Kenya. Kenya is a country in East Africa with a coastline on the Indian Ocean. Neighbouring countries include Ethiopia and Somalia to the North and North-East, Uganda to the West, and Tanzania to the South. This country is home to very surreal and dreamlike landscapes: a palm-fringed coastline of the Indian Ocean, the Great Rift Valley, the immense forests and lone trees standing high and proud in the savannah. Kenya is renowned for its abundant wildlife and annual Great Migration, but also for its capital Nairobi, East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city and the country’s beating heart.
Kenya’s population also adds depth and resonance to the country’s appeal; the Maasai, the Samburu, the Turkana, the Swahili: these are only a few examples of the forty different ethnic African groups that tell the stories of this ancient country and that maintain its traditions alive. Some of them wear strong red apparel and wear lots of bracelets, thus bringing soul and colour to this earth.
It is a country brimming with romance, thrill and adventure – nothing says “classic safari” like a Kenyan safari with its savannahs peppered with immense herds of animals and snow-capped equatorial mountains. A Kenyan safari not only boasts spectacular natural beauty in one of the most unspoiled places on earth, but it also offers you the closest and most personal experience with Africa’s most sought-after wildlife.
Kenya is the land of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, of wildebeest and zebras migrating in millions with the great predators of Africa that follow in their wake. The country is also home to the red elephants of Tsavo, to Amboseli elephant families in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro and to the massed millions of pink flamingos stepping daintily through lake shallows. Further popular animals in Kenya that can be observed include the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, collectively referred to as the “Big Five” and which can only be found in a few other countries on the continent. Other widespread wildlife includes giraffes, cheetahs, monkeys, gazelles, bush babies, roan and sable antelopes, steenboks and squirrels.
