MEXICO LUXURY TRAVEL
the destination
Mexico is located in Central America between the USA and Guatemala and faces both the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The home of Aztecs, tequila, Salma Hayek and Frida Kahlo, almost everyone knows something about Mexico. Yet beyond those stereotypes, Mexico offers a tantalizing blend of Mesoamerican cultures, Spanish traditions, contemporary art, white sandy beaches, an incredible flora, and never-ending adventures.
Mexico’s pre-Hispanic civilizations built some of the world’s greatest archaeological monuments such as Oxkintok or Chichén Itzá, and the Spanish colonial era left beautiful towns such as richly sculpted stone churches and mansions, while modern Mexico has seen a surge in great art. Popular culture is just as vibrant, from underground dance clubs to street art in Mexico City.
Despite a heavy influence of the US and close links with the rest of the Spanish-speaking world, the country remains true to itself. Between the emblematic mariachi groups to bands that blast out banda or son Jarochos, traditional Mexican music is diverse and excellent. The people are welcoming and friendly; even if you don’t speak Spanish, Mexicans will go out of their way to give you the information you were looking for, even if that means ringing their niece for advice on bus routes. Furthermore, the cuisine is amazing and varied. It’s not all about tacos and tortas; in fact, the culinary scene varies wildly from North to South and each dish remains just as delicious as the last one whether you are trying Yucatán’s cochinitapibil (slow-cooked pork), sampling artsy concoctions by world-class chefs in Mexico City or eating tortillas in humble taquerías, ubiquitous all over Mexico.
Landscapes in Mexico are a further gem that are encountered in this country, ranging from shimmering blue coastlines of Baja California and the iconic cactus-strewn deserts of the North, to the Maya villages and gorgeous palm-smothered beaches of the south. Mexico is an endless adventure for the senses and a place where life is largely lived in the open air: you can climb volcanoes, ride the white waters of Mexico’s rivers, strap on a snorkel to explore the beauty beneath the surface of the Caribbean Sea and marvel at the breath-takingly biodiverse animals such as the cacomistle, the Mexican prairie dog or the vaquita porpoise.
